Sergio Puccini was born in Rosario, Argentina,
in 1958. He started his musical training at the age of ten with S. Grande
Castelli (jazz guitar and harmony), Dante Grela (harmony and composition) and
Juan Di Lorenzo (classical guitar). He also studied at the School of Music of
the UNR (Universidad Nacional de Rosario) where he took part in a Guitar
Quartet.
He attended several courses and master classes with Leo Brouwer, Alexandre Lagoya, David Russell, Alberto Lysy, Jorge Martínez Zárate, Oscar Ghiglia, among others. In 1981 he received guitar lessons from Ernesto Bitetti at Indiana University (Bloomington, USA).
Since 1990 Mr. Puccini is serving as Dean of the Instituto Provincial del Profesorado de Música de Rosario (IPPM). As a guitar teacher he worked at National School of Music, UNR School of Music, Pro Música Institute. S. Puccini gave Master Classes in Argentina and abroad: Albany University (NY-USA), IPPM (Rosario-Argentina), Florida Youth Conservatory (Fort Lauderdale-USA), Universidad de las Américas (Puebla-México). He was also Coordinator of the Music Department (1993–97) at the Secretaría de Cultura de la Municipalidad de Rosario.
Sergio Puccini often plays concert and recital programs in the most important concert halls of Argentina, Latin America and USA. Many symphonic and chamber orchestras have invited Puccini to play as a soloist: San Francisco Camerata Americana (USA), Symphony of the Americas Orch. (USA), Mannes Orchestra (New York, USA), National Symphony of El Salvador, Orquesta Nacional de Música Argentina (Argentina), Santa Fe Symphony Orch. (Argentina), Camerata Lysy-Gstaad, Rosario Chamber Orchestra (Argentina), Hungarian Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra (Hungary), Maracaibo Symphony Orchestra (Venezuela), Czech-Moravian Chamber Orchestra (Czech Republic). Mr. Puccini has participated on TV and radio programs in Argentina, USA and Latinamerica.
Sergio Puccini has played with important international artists such as: Andrea Griminelli (flutist of tenor Luciano Pavarotti), bandoneonist Rodolfo Mederos and violinist Alberto Lysy, among others. He has performed in several International Festivals of Chamber and Contemporary Music in USA and Latinamerica. He worked with prestigious orchestra conductors such as: Germán Cáceres (El Salvador), Carlos Cuesta (Spain-Argentina), Peter Bellino (USA), James Brooks-Bruzzese (USA), Alfredo Rugeles (Venezuela), José Luis Moscovich (USA), Miklos Szenthelyi (Hungary), Juan C. Zorzi (Argentina).
Interested not only in classical standard repertoire but also in new music for the instrument, Mr. Puccini has done world and national premieres of music by important composers, many of them written and dedicated to him: Juan Orrego-Salas, Luis De Pablo, Peter Bellino, Carlos Franzetti, Dante Grela, Faye-Ellen Silverman, Paul Nash, Juan C. Zorzi, Karólina Eiriksdóttir and Elmer Bernstein. Further engagements include: world premiere of Concierto para Guitarra y Orquesta by salvadorean composer Germán CACERES; world premiere of „Convergence“ (Guitar Concerto) by outstanding American composer Belinda REYNOLDS and world premiere of a work for solo guitar and string quartet by outstanding spanish composer Pilar JURADO.
Mr. Puccini takes part in a Flute and Guitar Duo with argentinian flutist Gabriel Leo. This Duo works in residence at the Instituto Provincial del Profesorado de Música (IPPM).
Puccini has recorded five CD productions which received acclaimed reviews. The last one is a CD with San Francisco Camerata Americana, under conductor José Luis MOSCOVICH, recorded at Berkeley, CA. The repertoire includes works by American and Latinamerican composers: Brouwer, Guastavino and the world premiere recording of „Concierto del Plata“ by argentinian Carlos FRANZETTI.
